removing air con from a TPI ?
Hi guys,
Ive got no use for air con over here in england and mine doesnt work anyway, if its a really nice day i take the t-tops off, and i dont drive it in winter so theres no point having it, im trying to de-clutter the engine bay and ive heard it improves MPG too
can anyone tell me whats involved in removing the air con ? do you just unbolt the compressor and the silver canistor and thats it, i noticed there is a plug that goes into the compressor, if i disconnect it will i start getting codes from the computer ? i wasnt sure if you could just yank it out with it being on a TPI motor, with all the electronics.
Thanks,
Scott

Disconnecting either the compressor clutch wiring or the high pressure cutout will not set any error codes. Disconnecting the high pressure switch in the hot liquid line (along the subframe rail) will cause the electric fan to run continuously. You can either jumper the connector or reprogram the ECM for no AC pressure switch and no IAC adder steps for AC request.

You save about 50lbs off the nose of the car. To do a clean job, you may want to track down the a/c delete heater box. You can find these on ebay. They are not cheap, but worth the money. You will also need to purchase a A/C delete pulley to replace the compressor. You can order these through the many discount parts sellers in the USA. Expect to pay about $45/US.
