Planning Mods and want feedback!
First off most of u may not agree to my mods but keep in mind i don't want a huge hotrod. Also I'm a single daddy and my pocket book its not "fat" so here is what i want to do...
I'm taking a 350 block i have a gettin it .60 over. Puttin pistions and rings/ bearings/ new oil pump. Ya know the works.
Cam and lifters is where i want the most feed back!@!@!..
I want to put a lt4 cam in it. I have no idea what type of lifters to use.....
I am going to have my 305 tpi heads redone and this is where most of you may not agree but thats fine. So while they are being redone going to have the customized for the lt4 cam clearance.
Probley put some 25 to 30 lb injectors and a bigger fuel rail if i can find a used one cheap enough. Probley some custom tpi work done by me.
I already have my custom ram air kit made. Going to scoop up air from front bottom of car and direct it directly to the front of TB. ( waiting to have a new prom till everything done )
some Exhaust work.
Headers.... Shorts or longs????
Probley have a high flow cat
and maybe a cat back if someone will explain what is????
Going to put a tgo shift kit and put 3.23 gears in the rear....
btw this is all gettin done in winter and all at once..... so it won't be just one thing at a time. I think i have enough saved up to this stuff but i'm not buying most of it new. I found 90% on this site and Ebay really cheap...
Now my questions of concern
Is it going to be possible to put a lt4 cam in this with the 305 heads... I am telling the machine shop what cam i am puttin in there so he can put the correct springs and w/e will be need...
I currenly have about 1500 put back and will probley have 2000 all together. I've been saving since First of year. Most of you might think this can't be done for this price... Or who know what ya going to think. That is why i want some feed back. I might see a different route i can take after a little convo with other people.
Like i said i'm not looking for godly horsepower. Just something that will get me going. And this i feel will put me close to where i plan to aim. I just want a goal before i start into this
Any feedback welcome Positive and negative!!!!!
Just remember. Money is very limited
Thanks
Derrick

ok you want opinions... don't use those heads, find a set of used lt1 heads or vortec heads, it will give you much better breathing characteristics and with all the work you may do to the other heads they may still not flow as well as the lt1 heads. then add the intake and short headers ( better cost for reasonable power )
I myself am building an lt1 to install in my 88 TA, because I'm doing the majority of the work myself I should finish it under 1700.00 with the lt4 cam, new pistons, shorty headers,
Good luck with your install however you decide to proceed.
BTW, the 1700 includes the purchase price of the lt1 with harness and ecm.

I was going to put a set of lt1 heads on it.. and might do that if i can ever find a used set at a cheap price.... but as of now a new set is way out of the question cause of the $$$$

For your LT1 heads, check on E-Bay, they are a lots of stock at a resonable price,
For the cam, I suggest you a 270H or 280H, those make a lots of power in mid and high end, putting a bigger one will force you to beat it because the big power came on at 4500-6500rpm, the 280H (this is what I have before I rebuild my engine) pull allmost hard but 1K later (3500-5500)
It depends on your use
If you are using Hydraulic lifter, let your old spring in place for the cam breack-in, and adjust it all like solid one (.010-.015 of free play) for the first 200 milles, then put on your new spring and readjust it all, it will help you for long lasting result!!!
