NEW TO TPI SYSTEM

OK don't all laugh, but I'm new to the TPI world; I'm an old world BIG BLOCK MOPAR MAN

But here goes...

Basic car... 86 IROC 305 TPI (VIN code F); 4.10 rears, BBK 58mm THrottle Body, Accel SUper HEI COIL, ACCEL Dist; Crane AFPR set to 48#; Edelbrock tubular exhaust system, Summit High flow CAT; DynoMax Cat back exh system; Jet Chip; 160 deg thermostat; Taylor Spiral COre 8mm wires; NGK Iridium Plugs; B&M 2400 stall Hole shot convertor.

I plan to lose the A.I.R. system (manifold tubes, air pump, air line to CAT), possibly the charcol canister.

Any suggestions or comments?

I just tore the motor down due to a bad head gasket.

It was bored .030 over only a few miles ago by previous owner. I'm going to goto .040 over. What would be a good cam to use? What ratio rockers, Injectors? Fuel Pressure?

Looking for any help I can get since I'm new to this setup type.

If you are going to maintain the stock intake hardware on top, as well as the heads, I would use a cam in the 208-212 deg. duration intake area, and 218/222 deg duration exhaust area, with around .460-.480 lift on both sides with of course, new valve springs. If you are thinking of upgrading your rockers, I would go with full 1.6 roller rockers with valve springs that can handle the additional lift. I wouldn't change the injector size, but I would bump the FP up slightly. If you are going to change the intake hardware - all of this would help, but I wouldn't call the cam ideal.

Either way, if that is the stock 1986 LB9 cam in there - it's got to go!!! Those were horrible. On a last note: don't expect to see much of a gain from deleting that emissions equipment. What doing that will do is limit where you can sell your car to when you are "Done with it."

Bore kit? AKA 350CI.

Suggesting parts would be easier if we knew what you were trying to accomplish.

A new block is a bore kit now?

That's just funny. I never thought of it that way. I kinda ruled it out in my post because he seemed pretty dead set on going further and further with the 305, but if a 350 is even a option - DO IT!

Then the injectors will need to be changed, and at least chip tuning should be done. If it's easier, an old prom from an 87/88 350 would work in a pinch. It did in my old 86 anyways.

Saw it before, thought it was funny myself.
Depending on his intentions... the stock 305 injectors will take him pretty far. I'm just wondering because I see that 4.10 gear and 58mm TB and I'm a little confused.

Let me explain

This car was partially built by someone else.

It is owned by a 41 year old idiot that has no idea the difference between a spark plug and a freeze plug, daddy pays for everything...enough said???

He wanted better off the line umph...so the 4.10 ratio....the 58mm came from the factory throttle body being wore out and Summit racing was out of the 52mm size. That and it will work now and with future mods.

His goal is "GO FAST", but do it all by this afternoon.

Deleteing the A.I.R. system is only to make things under the hood look better...he doesnt like that he can barely see his Edelbrock Signature valve covers LOL.

He is a total pain if ya havent guess that yet...he has no clue about cars PERIOD.

All I am doing is pacifying him a little at a time, he wont go for big dollar upgrades due to he cant slide them into the company expenses as easy as cheaper ones.

Yeah, then a cam is definately a great place to start on that 86 LB9. They were absolutely pathetic. Especially on a budget, but the guy does sound like a PITA. I didn't even take note of the 4.10's, but hey, if he likes ending a quarter mile shifting into overdrive, that's his ball of wax.

madmaz, per the 19lb injectors, they can get your pretty far and they do work, but I've done two LB9 -> L98 swaps now, and it's just always easier to use as much of the "Factory Like" equipment as possible. 22lb injectors are hard to find cheap, so I typically use 24lb'ers as oppossed to the old higher mileage 19's.
