What controlls the electric fans?
Hey guys, the electric fans on my firebird stopped working and I'm wondering what the culprit is. So far I ran a switch to jump two wires to make the fan(...or fans not sure..) spin. I just got a new chip (hypertech, crap I know) put in because the old one was broke, so I was wondering if the problem with my fans not coming on is in the chip or the computer or something else, thanks!

If you have dual fans, one is controlled by a simple temperature switch in the passenger side head. The other fan is controlled by the ECM.

The primary fan on the driver side is governed by the chip, according to certain variables. The secondary is switched by the temp sensor or AC pressure switch(when you turn on AC.)
Can you find a stock chip for your year/transmission? It is possible you got a corvette chip, where the fan polarity is switched.

Well, I think they were working before a couple of weeks ago...My dad said he already replaced the temp sensor and the relay and it did't help, it's a dual fan setup, would there be any way to find out if it got a corvette chip?
edit: I just wanted to add I'm not 100% sure on if they were working or not and I re-read my first post and can't believe i forgot if it was single or dual fans, lol, guess I was up too late, and thanks for the info.

I am not sure if hypertech has a part or chip number on them or how they identify their chips. That would be the first thing I would find out and contact hyperchips for info on what you have.

Alright, thanks guys. I need to get my truck inspected, so I'll see if they can give me the part number of it or something before I go taking the dash apart.
