STILL consuming oil...!

5.7L SD TPI... got about 7500 miles on the rebuild now, but still sucking oil in from somewhere. heads were all redone with teflon valve seals, doesn't seem to be the problem. had leaking seals before and never used this much oil. changed out the intake gasket and no dice there, either. used the stock GM gasket like i do every other time, only this time even added a thin film of RTV to both sides of the ports. i get the occasional puff of smoke out the exhaust, plugs are fouling up, as well. leads me to believe it's being sucked in to the cylinders. anyhow, consumption is about 1qt/500 miles. went to the shop today that did all the work for me and they're as befuddled as i am. anyone else got a clue? no signs of leakage anywhere, either. coolant system is clear, as well.

only other possibility i can think of is if the heads were swapped from side to side on the build-up - does it matter? thought they were they same both sides, but maybe not?

Doesnt matter what side. What heads are on there? Have you verified that the intake face and head face of the intake side are true? Any milling which would effect having the intake seal to the head? Do a comp and leakdown test to see how the rings are.

do u have stock heads, i ran into a similiar problem with my edelbrock performers, the rocker studs go into the intake port and if they're not sealed oil will get sucked through the threads and foul plugs.

Exactly what I was thinking. My Trick Flows did that. Took me about 1/2 year to figure it out. It was also a quart per 500 miles.

Have the heads or intake been milled?

What kind of rings?

thanks for the replies.. i'll have to check on the rocker studs. makes sense, although, to my knowledge, they were not disturbed when the heads were reworked. intake and heads were not milled at all, so should mate back together with no issues.
