Start Problem

Had an unusual thing happen today.I was driving my 86 Iroc 305 tpi and everything was fine till I stopped to get gas. After filling up i got in the car and turned the key and nothing happened. The motor didnt crank, there was not even a click. It made no sound at all. This has never happened before.I had all other electrical functions.I popped the hood and wiggled the battery cables a bit but nothing.I did hear what appeared to be a hissing noise from I think the fuel rail or injector(s).Finally after about 10 minutes when i was about to give up I tried 1 more time and it started right up.Drove it home shut it off and it started right up.Any Ideas?

Could be the neutral safety switch. Try wiggling the shifter if it happens again.

Could be heat sepage(I believe is what they call it...)....when the starter gets too hot, it draws too many amps, and is not able to turn over, but does wear the battery out, although, with this, you should still hear your starter solenoid clicking, and it should still turn, just really slow, and not enough to start it...

A buddy of mine has a 92 TransAM that occasionally does the same thing. I've determined that it's heat soak, there are products to help you with that, just search heat soak

The same exact thing happened to me in my Datsun 280ZX about two weeks ago. I think it was the neutral safety switch becuase after a bunch ofi decided to move the shifter through the gears one more time just for the hell of it and it aparently decided to get a sense of humor and start up right away with no fuss. Havn't had a problem since which is a little odd to me, but oh well.

I think it might also have something to do with heat.I dont really drive the car too much but that day i drove it to work then took a long fast ride.It was fairly warm out that day thats why I thought something might have gotten too hot.10 minutes later it all ok again

I've had the same thing happen to my car several times. We replaced the neutral safety switch and it was fine for a long time. But the other day I went out to start my car, the temperature was about 40*F, and it happened again. Waited about 10 minutes, and it started right up.
