Yes you need a TPI TV cable. You can get one at TPIparts.net. I had to do the same when I did mine. They are different lenghts.

Just make sure both the accelerator and TV cable are from GM, anything aftermarket will probably be wrong. Check my post about Advance Auto and the time I had getting the right cables for my recent swap.

I've seen all sorts of wacky aftermarket cables that are "supposed" to work. Stick with GM for those two cables and you'll be fine. Make sure to get the right throttle cable for your application. 85-88 throttle cables are one style, and 89-92 are the other style. The throttle body linkage changed to a different style in 89.

sorry for crashing this post but....I have the same situation. I already have the new TV cable but have not installed it yet. I don't know anything about tranny internals and was wondering how hard it would be install the new cable? Dropping the pan of course, would I need a new gasket? What else is involved with the swap?

It's not too terribly hard to change. You don't have to drop the tranny pan either. The hardest part is just getting the eyelet at the trans end of the cable hooked up. All you have to do to remove the old cable down at the trans is undo the one 10mm bolt that holds it in the trans, no dropping the pan at all. If you have someone help you keep tension on the cable at the throttle end after you get the eyelet hooked up, the rest is a breeze to do. It's a little hard to get your hands in there down at the trans, but not impossible.
