I just bought a 35K stock 305 TPI complete with 700-R4 trans, wiring harness and computer. Does anyone know if I need new keys, the TPI keys or use my original keys. My 89 has the chip in the keys ditto for the car the TPI came out of.

Also the "Camaro White Book" says that the 89 305 TPI was rated at 195 hp with the auto and 220 hp with a stick. What's the difference?

Any help or tips are appreciated. This is my first engine swap.

Thanks..........

im not sure about the keys, but i would think you would have to switch the keys also because you will be changing the computer. the reason fro the difference in hp between the auto and the 5 speed is because of different cams. i believe the 5 speed 305 had the same cam as the 350's

Any idea on cam specs. I only found one set of cam specs for the 305. 207/213 415"/430" 117 lobe.

You do not have to change keys. If you have the TPI keys it will be easier though. When you swap out ECM's, you can get a chip (PROM) burned to disable VATS. The anti theft system will cause you to pull your hair out if you do not know why your car will not start. I had this done when I did my TBI to TPI swap. Now I can have extra keys made anywhere because the car does not require the chipped keys.

All the keys are the same for Vats dosent matter if its TPI, TBI or MPI. You have to match the keys to the vats module. Just keep you stock keys and when you install your TPI harness you just have to make sure the singal wire from the VATS module is conected to the ecm.
