87 TPI on a 84 305??

A friend of mine would like to replace the stock carb on his 84 TA with the complete TPI Unit from my 87 IROC. I have a vague recollection that he would need a manifold from an 85 TPI Unit due to some differences between 87 and 84 heads. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks

The center bolts for the 87 are different then the 86 and earlier ones. You can drill out the center bolt holes holes pretty easy, or use an 86 and earlier base.

I also believe that the 87 will require use of a small cap distributor due to the difference in the diameter of the hole (at least I know the hole is larger on my 86 TPI intake then the late model TPI dizzy I have)

Thanks for the info- I guess we will just pull both manifolds and see how the center bolt holes differ...........do you think the bolt holes will need to be drilled out by a machinist, or is it easy enough with a hand held drill??Thanks pat

should be easy enough to drill and tap the holes yourself
