bad ignition module

i have a holley stealth ram so i switched to a small cap distributor and remote coil, everything has been fine for a while, this last week the car wouldn't start, i found out i had no spark so i changed the ignition module and it fired right up. i drove it up the street and then parked it, then today i started it up everything was fine and while i was backing up the car shut off and i have no spark again, i'm guessing its the module again. any ideas whats causing the module to go bad.

the 2 main things that kill the ignition module are not cleaning the place where the module mounts at & not using the thermal grease that should come with the new module.
the other thing is a bad ignition coil.
bad plug wires, bad plugs, a bad cap or rotor can damage the coil.
also, if you have an electric cooling fan, wiring it up to the power wire for the ignition system can also kill the module.

what brand of module & coil did you buy?

Might want to investigate the pickup coil while your swapping parts :-)

i have a crane coil and hi-6s ignition, with a summit racing distributor, i went and got a new module since it was under warranty and it runs fine again.hopefully this one lasts longer than a day.

i have a question for you not really pertaining to your problem but I'm lost here. I have an 86 camaro 305 tpi and would like to go to the small cap disributor how did you change it over and what did you do about the wiring harness and provisions on mounting the coil and will it work with the stock computer. thanks

Snag the remote coil distrib, coil, and harnesses from the wrecking yard.

Then wire your connector to it per 89 up small cap f-body specs.
