Hi,new member here with a couple of questions about my hard starting 5.0 TPI.I recently bought an 89 T/A with a brand new 5.0 TPI engine and 700R4 tranny from a friend at work.It has the normal hard start problems I found in searches, but whoever put this engine in did a serious hack job on the wiring harness,so sometimes when you turn the switch to run but not start, the fuel pump will run like it's supposed to and sometimes it won't,also the fuel pump will run when you turn the switch off like it does when it's on,and to start the car you have to turn the switch on and off several times. Also after it's has been running for a few moments and you shut it off,it wont start back up unless you spray starting fluid down the tb.Any sugestions are greatly apprecieated.

Well, you might try the fuel pump relay. Not sure about Birds, but its on the driver's side firewall on my 89 Camaro. A new relay is about $12. After a swapped my TBI for TPI, I had a similar problem. Might be worth a shot.

Mine did the same, the ECM has a coolant sensor, and that was the problem as far as starting...the fuel pump running on is a differnt issue, try disconnecting the auxiliary oil pressure switch (leave it disconnected and start the car) and see if the pump still runs on after the car is shut off, if it dosnt let us know and we can help.
Also check the fuel pump relay, and fuel pressure (43.7lbs)
