305tpi wont start???
I have an 88 camaro with a 305tpi/700r4. When I try starting it the starter turns the flex plate, but the pulleys don't move. I was told it could be one of two thing. Either my crankshaft snapped or the bolts bolting the flexplate to the crankshaft broke or fell out. The strange thing is one day it was running fine, and the next mourning it wouldn't start up. So my question is could it be anything else? Or which one is more likley to happen? I know I have to pull the trans out to check the bolts to see if they fell out or broke, just wanna make sure it couldn't be something else before I do. Thanks

It's not likely that either the flex plate bolts or the crankshaft have broken. I'd be much more inclined to think that the starter is bad. Are you really sure that the flex plate is turning?

yeah, I'm positive the flex plate is turning. I first thought it was the starter not engaging, but I had someone crank it over while I watched and I saw it spinning. Yeah I find it hard to believe my crankshaft snapped. Like I said one day it was running fine, the next day it wouldn't start up.

I would put it up on stands and have a good look at that flexplate. You should be able to see if the crank is turning while your down there. Till you see if it's actually turning, you can't really move onto the next step.

shoot just pull the #7 and #8 plugs and turn it over and if you hear air shooting out you know the crank is turning in atleast the rear cylinders. also if you look down at the balancer is it spinning?
