AFR heads/springs question
I picked up a set of 180cc Afr's with the upgraded 1.530 springs good for .600 lift. Upon doing a little poking around, AFR's latest catalog only lists the 1.530" spring for flat tappet applications. They list a 1.550 spring for roller applications. My question is, how can I tell if the springs I have will work with a hydraulic roller cam like the LPE219. These heads are going on a ZZ4 roller shortblock. Thanks guys

Re: AFR heads/springs question
Still looking for an answer fellas. I have emailed AFR several times to no avail. Any input would be helpful.

Re: AFR heads/springs question
pressure with the GMPP rollers is a bit much. even the best comp roller
hyd lifter warns not to exceed 125 seat pressure.
its too much spring... scaling the spring by increasing the installed height
will soften the pressure, but overall this is a solid lifter spring.
i use cranes 99838 1.465OD dual spring with a 110 seat and 336 @ .500
installs @ 1.650 soft enough for a hyd roller and stout enough for 6500revs.

Re: AFR heads/springs question
Comp sells springs listed for use with hydraulic rollers with 150# on the seat, so I wouldnt worry about that. You need an adequate seat and open pressure to keep the valve in control with the cam profile and RPM you're running. If AFR isnt responding, send the heads back. They should be able to tell you within a reasonable range what the assembled seat and open pressures are. Maybe ask Brian @ AD Performance, he's posted on these boards in the past and sells them, he would likely know or has access to that information.
I'm running 135# on the seat with AFR 190's and a 280XFI cam (a bit more aggressive ramps than the 268XFI you're looking at) and I havent floated any valves yet after a few thousand miles and plenty of WOT runs... and apparently past what RPM I'm supposed to be spinning this cam at.
