Rocker Question
Rocker Question
Hey guys, I swear im about as good at finding stuff on this site as using the yellow pages
. I cant seem to find out if the L98 came with roller rockers or not. So question being what rockers are on her and then, if I added 1.6 Roller Rockers would I actually bring anymore horsepower into play? I know there will be a little from reduced friction in the engine but will the extra lift help any? And then will my stock springs be okay? Im not to sure if I will cause bind or pull the stud, from what I was reading it is AND isnt.
Thanks guys.

Don't expect a lot but yes you'll get some benifit from the increased lift as well as the reduced friction. Stock are stamped steel 1.5:1 rockers.

How much of a difference is there?????? 10 HP maybe?????? What about throtle response?? thanks, Tom
Thats my question (other than the rocker ? thank you btw). Harland sharp (i believe) advertises 10-40! hp gain in the summit catalog so to me that means 5-20 hp, and probably only more than 10 if you have a HUGE cam and your making tons of friction. But i am willing to put money on throttle responce for sure, I mean its not a tuff equasion to figure out: Steel rockers = Heavy, Aluminum Rockers = Light. And according to Smokey Yunik there is hp to be seen from reducing valve train weight, with a 'closer to the valve the better' rule. So maybe when im in there I will upgrade to Titanium retainers while im at it
. Pull 20 Hp out of my rear end and no one will notice, until I hit the gas

The effect of switching to 1.6 will probably be a multiplier effect --
minimal (10 hp) for stock, to greater (?? hp) for other mods.
But keep in mind some other factors:
Putting 1.6's onto press-in studs is risky.
Stock center-bolt valve covers can have clearance problems with
some full roller's of either ratio.
Good luck.
