90 TPI Problem need advice
90 TPI Problem need advice
I have a 90 Formula 350 TPI. Just bought the car about a month ago. It has been sitting for about a year. The guy I bought it from said they had to change a couple of injectors once a it ran better for a while. When I got the car running it missed pretty badly. I changed the plugs, wires, dist cap and plugged in several vacuum hoses that were unplugged. It seemed to be running quite a bit better in the shop with only a slight miss. I took it out on the road and stepped on it only to have it die. When I let off of the gas it took back off. To keep it from stalling you have to gradually squeeze the throttle. I checked the fuel pressure under load and it doesn't appear to fluctuate below the 40# mark. After OHMing the injectors I found 2 that OHMed way less than the rest. I have replaced those and now the car will run but still with a slight miss and it doesn't have alot of power from a standstill. Do I need to change all of the injectors or do I still have another problem unrelated to them? I don't really want to invest a bunch of money chasing things so any help would be appreciated.

personally i would replace all of the injectors at the same time, but im not sure that this is your problem. if your interested i have a set of used injectors from a 350 tpi that used to be in my car for a while. i need to get rid of them, if you have any interest pm me.
more importantly i hope you solve the problem

I agree with 92camaroz28ss.. A couple of bad injectors can cause a miss and some loss of power, but they shouldn't cause the engine die right out when you get on the gas.
I'd take a close look at the throttle position sensor.
Does the check engine light come on? Have you tried to pull any codes from the ECM?

If I were to change any injector(s), I would absolutely change all of them at once and also make sure they're all the exact same injector. This way they will have the same wear/performance deterioration over time and your computer will not be confused by executing system-wide changes for only part of the injection process rather than all of the injectors as a whole.
Also you may want to check for blocked airways. When the throttle is opened, extra fuel is added engine to supplement the expected increased air flow. If the air flow is not really increased, there is an excess of fuel causing an engine to run to rich and eventually stall.
