won't idle or stay running under 3k
86/87 305(?) TPI in an 87 Firebird Formula
car cranks and starts.
Car dies if you don't hold down the pedal to keep the RPM above 3k
smoke coming from under hood (looks like predominatley from right rear side of engine)
I'd like to get the car to idle somewhat, I'm planning on regasketing the plenum and intake and o'ringing the injectors, since this guy says he had the rail out of the car. If I could afford to swap in injectors while I was at it I would.
I'm open to all theories

last night it didn't start at all
I need to get this car into the garage so I can start the disassembly, and start lopping off the extraneous crapola it has
maybe I'll just sell it and look for another 2nd gen.

if everything is hooked up right (hoses) you may need to adjust the TPS sensor. i think it's called that, i can't keep all the sensors strait!
there's a sensor on the side (passenger) of the throttle body. it held on by two "star" screws. moving that unit, can effect how the car runs/idles. after redoing my TPI system, i had to play with it for a while to get it right. you're supposed to do it with a electronic tool of some sort, but i don't have one, so i just fiddled with it. i'm not sure if that could be your problem, but you may try it.

he did claim several bad injectors though.
last car I had with bad injectors ran but, ran rough. it had 3 bad injectors (out of 6)
oh, that sensor is the TPS sensor
