no emissions for tpi
no emissions for tpi
hopefully some of you guys can help me out i am rebuilding my tpi motor and have gotten ride of all the emissions systems but the cat and egr. I think that there are only engine codes for egr. Will any codes come up for not using the smog pump and emission canister? if so will theese effect the performance of the car?
any tips you have for not using emissions systems will help
thanks

Re: no emissions for tpi
EGR will throw a code, and if you remove the EGR without programming it out of the computer it will actually hurt performance. Everything else will not throw a code. The gains you will recieve by removing the smog stuff will be minimal but it will clean up your engine bay alot.
Re: no emissions for tpi
i agree with subliminal, smog ****'s will argue to leave it on this and that....i still have fully functional EGR,but i got rid of the air injection system, and my car passed emissions with flying colors. not to mention yo ucan see the actual motor now!
heres a before after shot for ya to ponder...and btw...LEAVE the egr system in place.id also leave the evap system in place...it doesnt hurt power at all, jsut relocate it somewhere out of sight.

Re: no emissions for tpi
I deleted the AIR system and the smog pump crap. I'm running a high flow, NON air cat, and a zz4 cam, and at my buddy's shop, I actually ran CLEANER than before! Sure "Technically" it's illegal, but heck NC doesn't test pre 1996 cars anymore. Not saying my 3000 miles a year would be a major enviromentally unfriendly car, but I'm happy that it runs clean.
...and I'm still runnin' EGR, and the evap cannister is UNDER the tray where it normally sits ON the tray.

Re: no emissions for tpi
No disrespect, Iroc88 yours is also very nice.
Im alittle ahead of you, I had already pulled the block, and
painted the bay. I got to get the exterior done in the next
two weeks or so.
I also did the same thing and removed the Diverter valve,
and it made the engine bay 50% better than it was..
Surprising one component can deappreciate
the look of a engine or car in general!!
