quick question

i have an 88 trans am gta with a 350 motor in it. i just bought an S.A. gear performance timing gear set and it has the ability to advance or retard the timing of the camshaft to 4 degrees.. what would the effects be if id advanced it or retard it... would the car sound any different.... i also have long tubes im putting on also and some 1.6 rockers along with an full flowmasters exhuast... with that combo how would the car sound....

Re: quick question

Don't worry about advancing or retarding the timing set, just install it "straight up". Changing the cam timing is a way to fine-tune the engine's powerband, or to correct for a slightly mis-ground cam.

Re: quick question

It will have no effect at all on the sound.

Re: quick question

so the only way to change the idle of a car is to put a different camshaft in it like the powermax 2032 cam..

Re: quick question

well basically all i want to do is make the car sound off idle or let people know that it has a cam in it... i dont want to change alot of things to make it work like heads and intake... i just want a nice rumble to my engine at idle...

Re: quick question

Concentrate on the exhaust then, and don't worry about the cam. There's not much you can do with the cam to affect the idle that isn't going to annoy the computer.
