maf sensor or relays or ecm or what?
hey there. ive had this project car for about 7 months now.
always had a cold start problem
car would start have crappy/searching idle and then die. would only stay on if i gave it gas.
then after a few tries it would warm up and stay running and be fine.
would misfire or so i was told by what other people heard.
then after having it for a few months i got code 44 running lean.
i disconnected my maf and car statrted right up and ran liek liek brand new...wel compared to how it used to run.
now after drivign it just to see the difference i got code 33 and 36.
i plugged teh maf back in and went back to running like crap.
i havent replaced the relays yet.
but is there a way to test the maf itself and how?
also could the ecm have any part in this as to problems in itself?
what do you guys think since i dont have a spare maf to test right now.
ill buy a new one if i have to but i wnat your opinion knowing im going to replace the relays and what i should do.
thanks

I'm no V6 expert, but if that's what it did when you unplugged the MAF, I think I'd look a little closer at that. Why not take the car to Autozone and buy a new MAF? Put the new one in while you're in the parking lot, and if it doesn't solve the problem just return it and get your money back! The code 33 and 36 are both MAF codes which I'd expect if it were unplugged.

v6? i have a v8. sry i didnt tihnk it mattered since both engines came with a maf system in 86.
im gona replace the connectors and relays first. theres exposed wiring and cant be 100% sure eventhing is making contact. but who knows
just wanted to know if theres anything else i should look into
thanks for the reply
