head question... need some help

head question... need some help

just got my heads back from the head shop and they told me the bad news.....THEY ARE SHOT. pulled my motor out of a junk yard ( 88 gta 350 Tpi ) i was wondering, i have a friend that has some heads centerbolt from a 1990 3/4 ton chevy truck. i was wondering if they will work or if should pass on them. and if i do pass on them please let me know what heads are good to get ( dont have alot of cash to spend ) my current casting number are 193 the other heads are also non-vortec.. HELP ME PLEASE

Those truck heads are OK for stock truck motor rebuilds, but really good for boat anchors and doorstops . If you look at stock hp #'s for trucks from this period, you'll see what i mean. They were pumping between 170-210 hp out of a 350 with a 4500RPM redline (depending on year). Durable, yes, but hardly performance oriented. They will bolt up and function on your motor, but you'd do better to find some stock iron L98 heads in another junkyard, or if you want to screw with a bit of modification, put a set of vortecs on with a new intake base.
