ACCEL DFI ECU
Need opinion's on DFI ECU from accel. I have the oppertunity to buy a used one. Is it worth it to convert to speed density instead of MAF system? Is it hard to lern?

I've installed a complet DFI system on an 87 ASTRO-VAN with TPI and a T-56. The installation wasn't that difficult, BUT the tuning is a lengthty process. The baseline program is good enough to start the engine and so on, BUT it is BEST if you can take the vehicle to an EMIC that will tune it correctly. I know that this costs, but the alternative is a long learning curve plus the technical support can only give you so much info. Another thing, it is a DOS based program, and you will have to dedicate a LAPTOP to just DOS. The program doesn't like really fast processors either. If you have some electrical experience, you can modify your existing harness to work with the DFI ECU, it uses the same 2 (24-pin) and (32-pin)BLACK connectors as the MAF, SD and TBI harnesses. You can go the the www.mrgasket.com website and download the PDF file for the DFI training manual and get the HARNESS PIN-OUT, and simply re-pin and modify your existing harness. They do work fine when they are obviously tuned correctly. HTH's
EDIT: I didn't even realize you were in SWEDEN. Personally, I would STICK WITH THE 89 MAF system. Realistically, it's REALLY HARD to beat the multi-million dollar effort that GM put into these trouble-free ECM's. Unless your engine setup is extremely radical, the 89 MAF system is all you will need. If it were really radical, then the SPEED-PRO DFI system would be a more user friendly route, though more expensive. HTH's
