OK,

I will just be blunt and say I was a ford guy for many years so my "new to me" 87 GTA is all new tech to me.

But I love it!

I feel dumb for asking but here i go.

The timing marks on the car are where?? I see a line in the dampener and it is painted white. There is no other marks on my pulley. OK, soo I guess the timing marks are in the pointer attached to the motor. Now how do I read em? I see there are /\ cuts into the pointer. One is larger than all the rest and has a hole at the back of it. Is this the TDC mark?

right now my timing was at two /\ above (counter clockwise from front of motor) the large /\ mark.

What are the other marks (degrees) on the pointer?

Thanks

Im pretty sure that the largest one with the 0 behind it means that your at top dead center. I only going from memory when i did this on mine. Somebody correct me if im wrong.

Here is an aftermarket timing tab, yours should be pretty close try cleaning it off with some brake cleaner. 0 or TDC is usualy the tip of a point not in a valley. Take a white paint pen and mark the grove in your balancer, this will make it alot easier to read. You can buy a timing tape to stick on your balancer to read total timing, with the stock tab and an undegreed balancer you will only be able to read initial time.

Thanks! I went out and scrubbed the pointer with a wire brush.. POW there are all the numbers. Found out my car was at 12 Degrees initial timing, tomorrow I move it to 6.

Thanks again.
