hey all, im looking to get a direct replacement cratemotor for my 88 TA which one would i be looking for? i want as close to the stock 5.7 as possible. maybe a gm performace frfom summitt?

There isn't an exact replacement motor for our cars. An 88 has the newer intake pattern, roller cam, center bolt valve covers and 1 piece rear main in it, which makes crate motors kind of scarce. The ZZ4 crate motor is the closest, it's basically a L98 corvette motor with the aluminum heads, and a different cam. However, it doesn't have egr provision in the heads, which means you must switch to a vette style intake and weld a pipe in the exhaust manifold, or delete egr from the prom. In fact not many aftermarket heads are meant for our cars. Might be easiest to find a roller short block and get L98 heads for it. Then all your existing stuff works.
