Fuel pressure leakdown solved.

I am one of many who converted from carb to TPI. I am also lazy and choose not to pull my tank again to install a fuel pump, so I went with the in-line pump.
Well, in-line pumps do not have checkvalves so the pressure drops to zero instantly when the car is off. Makes for extended cranking times.

I solved it by buying a $12 in-line ball check valve (brass) and installed it today. Guess what, it works! I'm so proud of myself. The hardest part was finding one snd I found one at this site:
www.mcmaster.com./

Do a search for "compact ball check valve"

good solution,...which size brass valve did you install and did you drive it at WOT to see if it affects flow or presure? Also how did you plumb it into the factory line... flare to NTP?

I got the one with 3/4" NPT on both ends. One end adapted to my in-line fuel pump and the other end has a 3/8" barbed hose end to connect to the factory hose back by the axle. In fact that's where my fuel pump is, in front of the drivers side rear axle attached to the body.
I seriously doubt it will affect flow or pressure considering the 1/2 ball inside is bigger then my fuel supply line. Oh, and you should see my fuel pump, it's about the size of a half loaf of bread, good to 1100 hoursepower.

Why are fuel pumps rated in horsepower ? LOL I never understood that... You can have an engine that wants 100 gallons a minute and make 300 horsepower and another that makes 3000. I dont think fuel flow has any direct corellation with horsepower.
