What fails in the MAF? Is it fixable?
86 TPI Camaro, 305, MAF...
All the sudden it took a crap and hardly ran, sorta idled and NO acceleration, it was a weird feeling. I found out that unplugging the MAF sensor fixed it but then my ECM is in limp home. I DO have 12 volts at pin E for the MAF and pin A and B are grounded. So I believe its all a problem with the MAF itself, right?
Well visually the thing looks fine, the tiny wire is not broken. There are however a couple small pieces of debris floating around inside that must have gotten past the screens. Screens are both there BTW.
Is there any hope of fixing a MAF? What is it that typically fails??
Thanks for any help!

Start with checking/replaceing the MAF burnoff and power relays, they are the most common failure in the MAF circuit.

yea i checked for that, atleast the power is definitly working, because while running there is 12VDC to the E pin at the MAF.
i jsut wonder if anyone has torn down a MAF sensor and knows what is actually failing, and ofcoarse if it is fixable easily

my maf was not functioning properly on my 89 305 so i hda it disconnecte4d for a month or 2. what got it working again is when i ran some sea foam through it to clean out my top end. after that it mysteriously staarted to function again. the symptoms of my bad maf was frequent stalling and sputtering on cold starts. although i had no debris.

hmm, thats the thing, that tiny wire APPEARS ok, its not broken or anything. this was something that was all the sudden, worked fine, then boom.
actually i have seafoam in the gas right now, theres no way that could effect the MAF tho... right?
i cannot see anything effecting the MAF except debris and old age. and water, but it was dry.
well ill tear it apart and try something, ill post up if there is any success..
thanks
