WTF?!?!?! Code 43 on a 92 Firebird 305 TPI?!?!?!
WTF?!?!?! Code 43 on a 92 Firebird 305 TPI?!?!?!
I am getting a persistant trouble code on my 305 TPI motor from a 92 Firebird. THe code is 43 for Electronic Spark Control circuit. THe late TPI's don't even HAVE an ESC. Painless Wiring (the people I bought my harness from), is telling me that it should not be giving me that code, but it is.... the odd thing is that it seems to come on and go off all the time while the engine is idling.
Any ideas?!?!
Thanks!

If that's the case, how would I go about adding one to my setup? Where does it go? WHat does it tap into?

According to my GM book, it looks like it goes on the pass side f the motor. about midways down. you might just look at the wire it could have came off.

Did you install a knock sensor with the wiring kit? The 90-92 cars do have a ESC system. But not an ESC module they went to a memcal in the chip.
ON a stock TPI code 43 could be caused by a few things. Like a plug wire touching the wire going to the knock sensor. a broken wire to the sensor, a bad sensor itself. You could have a few bad injectors causing the motor to run lean and detonate. You could have a timing problem it could be over advanced causing it to detonate.
You could try running a resistor in place of the knock sensor to see its detonating or not.

Now we may be talking..... I will look into that tomorrow. It definitely has a backfire after revving up the motor. I wasn't sure if it was just the crappy exhaust that I put on it (home made with Cherry Bomb mufflers) or what the problem was.
How do I go about adjusting the timing? THe manual is REALLY confusing on that topic.
Thanks!!!
