Cleaning Question

Hello Everyone,
I am in the process of removing my plenum, runners, Throttle body, etc. for new injectors. I want to clean them up because they are all full of carbon. Can i use carburetor cleaner or break cleaner? or should I use something else? Want to do it right....

Thanks....

Re: Cleaning Question

I used gasoline. About a 1.5 gallons and let the stuff sit overnight. I then hit them with a stiff brush. Everything cleaned up quite nice. Even with the price of gas, it's cheaper than several cans of carb cleaner. Plus you can use it to clean other parts.
During my teardown and rebuild the 1.5 gallons of gas cleaned everything. Of course I would rinse the gas off with carb cleaner to remove all the gas residue.

Re: Cleaning Question

When I had my runners off, I cleaned them up with acetone and a rag. I pulled an acetone soaked rag through each runner. It's messy

I mostly concentrated on cleaning up the outsides. I didn't worry about getting all the carbon out of the insides.. The deposit wasn't thick and it's just going to form again anyway.
