while taking my tpi apart
Ok so now I have taken out the upper plenum, the runners, and everything but the fuel rails and injectors. I wanna clean out that whole area but i dont want dirt to get in the lower intake. Is it ok if I just put some rags in the intake holes? Now for cleaning out the runners and upper plenum. Will carb or brake cleaner work fine? I know to let it dry and w/e. Then I took off 3 spark plug wires and noticed some white film on one of the caps of the distributor. What is this? Thanx for the help guys. Oh and one last thing. I found this open pipe to the right of the engine near the firewall. What is it?

Re: while taking my tpi apart
That air tube has another tube coming from the other side of the back of the block which connects to the top of the headers. These will go to the Air pump to the divertor valves, and to the side of the catalytic convertor.
Re: while taking my tpi apart
Plug the opening with something that wont leave large pieces behind
A newish shop rag would be fine, paper towels etc would not
I would advise against letting the cleaner get down into the lower intake and saturating the rags
Best is to remove the lower intake and clean it off the car
Carb cleaner should do it, degreaser will help
White crust on the dist points is dried connection jelly or corrosion buildup
If its mild then just wipe it off and dont worry about it. Put it in line for the annual tune up
If its pretty good buildup then go ahead and replace the cap and wires now
