Good heads/cam on a TPI
Good heads/cam on a TPI
i posted about this on the general tech board, but its not getting many responces, so lets try here
I am thinking of buying a cam and heads for my 305, and i've heard that 350 heads work well, but require some work to get them to function properly on a 305. Somone also said that there is a set of heads called S/R torquer(sp?)? I really don't have many mods on the car, so this would be one of the first. My friend is getting mad at me for EVEN thinking of doing mods to the 305, he says i should get a 350. But, i just to know what kind of options i have with the 3o5 but, i am thinking of a 350 swap if the 305 is really going to be a waste of time.

P.S. Is it possible to get a cam that will give my car that old lopey muscle car sound even though im running TPI?

1991 Z28 305 TPI.
Mods: Hypertech Airfoil, gutted airboxes, K&Ns,polished 91' rims (they turned pink!), and all rear end bushings & tranny mout are energy suspension poly ones now
MORE TO COME: Any suggestions on what to do next? I really want to try and make the 305 run 13s (i've mostly been doing basic repair to the car, but now most of its done i have money to mod!)e-mail me@ abraham_39@hotmail.com

Summit racing or Jegs sells the 305 SR torquer heads, I believe they are made by World Products. The SR torquer heads have better flow potential then the stock heads but the L-98 Corvette alum heads would be a better choice. The Corvette heads have a small 58cc chamber and large 1.94 INT and 1.50 Exh valves. Those valves are the maximium size you can run in a 305 without doing all kinds of special work. Another bonus with the Corvette heads is that they will work great on a 350 if you ever decide to upgrade. For the cam choice I would recommend a ZZ-3/ZZ-4 cam. This cam has decient lift numbers and reasonable duration figures, it would work great in a 305. I would also suggest talking to TPIS or some other after market company that specializes in TPI engines. They should be able to answer your questions about cam selection.
You can make get a 305 to run 13's without all kinds of work, check my sig.

how did that cold air intake work for you? i was thinking of trying it on my camaro, but i just gutted the airboxes instead.. I'm still thinking of getting the intake though. I've decided differently about the 305 now. I'm just going to put my Edlebrock TES and do 3in all the way though for exhaust, a chip upgrade (prolly performance resource) and leave it at that. I have a 350 block now, and i think im going to prep ir for a supercharger.. its going to take a while (because funds are low) but, after its over i want to have a 350 that can handle 12PSI of boost. So, for now the 305 should atleast sound good..
Thx for the info though,
