I know 89-90 are definitely the external coil--not sure about the changeover tho.My 86(tpi) had the hei in it.

 

I think 87 was actually the first year for an external coil.

 

87? The reason Im asking is because IM having a hard time finding spark plug wires.

87 was first year for remote coil hei in f-body. Shouldnt have a problem getting wires. If you have in cap and get remote wires you will just have the coil wire left over.

be a little more informative. i have almost the exact same setup as u so maybe i can help! i'm having a hard time understanding not being able 2 find wires? also did u replace the stock coil? and all distib. after 86 i belive r hei (high energy ignition) just some have the external coil and some inside the cap but all r until 93 don't know after that. let me know!

Thanks for the replies. I should of been more specific. I was having a hard time finding MSD wires for my setup. Also they had to be long enough to reach around headers.

I finally found a set. Holley 9mm laser shots.

Getting an MSD coil for christmas.

I'm going to be seeing high 13s with my setup now. That is my goal. 13s on a stock motor. Stock cam, heads, manifold,TB,dist.
