All this just before a meet...

Had an issue over the weekend...

Got in car and started it and immediately the idle shot up to 1250 rpms and the SES light came on.

Shut her down and checked my codes and this is what I got:
21- TPS
32- EGR system (which had been ib there prior to this, SES would come on at highway speed)
33- MAF
42- EST

A week prior to this I added new K&N's, gutted the A/F box, and pulled the screens from my MAF. Car ran great until last Sat. morning.

I checked the TPS voltage which was something crazy like 2.5 volts. Would the TPS being out of adjustment throw the other codes(33/42).?

When the car is at idle now is running super rich. When I romp the trottle there is a slight hesitation b4 it will rev up. Also got a bit of black smoke out the exhaust.

The car did feel a bit funny driving home from work last Fri., so getting the codes didnt surprise me Sat. morning.

Any suggestions?

Re: All this just before a meet...

if your tps is reading 2.5v i wouldn't the burn off relay would do that. the first thing i would do if it was me is reset the computer and see what codes come back. btw the fan relay is the same as burn off so if you know the fan works then switch them out and see what happens.

Re: All this just before a meet...

2.5 volts from the TPS will cause a high idle & can make it run rich.
the TPS could possibly cause the MAF code.
the ECM thinks the throttle is open more than it really is & thinks it should see more air flow from the MAF.
if you have recently checked the timing, say within the last 50 starts, that may be where code 42 came from.
replace the TPS. clear codes & see what happens.

Re: All this just before a meet...

I set the TPS probably in May b/c the idle was high. Had no issues after that until this.

Re: All this just before a meet...

I don't know about anyone else, but I set my TPS a few times once I started throwing bolt ons at the car. I would set it, recheck it not long after, and it was out once again. I think once they have been adjusted from the factory position, they tend to move a bit. Just a thought.

Re: All this just before a meet...

I was going to go back and reset the TPS and see what I have then. My big concern is the other codes as well.

Could the TPS set the rest of the codes?(besides the code 32)

I took the car for a drive, it doesnt run horrible just not where it should be.

Re: All this just before a meet...

It was the TPS. Checked the voltage and it was reading WOT and could not get it to read any lower than 4 volts. Spent 30 bucks on a TPS and cleared all the 21,33 and 42.
