Help me decide
Help me decide
Got some pocket change laying arround and I decided I am going to upgrade my TPI on the GTA. I have been going back and forth about it and decided against a LT1 or HSR for favor of building a nicer 355 Miniram in the future. But for now I have about $400 to play with and wanted some runners for the car. Looking at what Summit has its a choice between:
SLP Runners and then Siamese 1 inch into the runner
Edelbrock Runners...???...
Or TPIS big mouth runners
I wanted to keep my torque but bring my powerband up to maybe 5500 if possible (doubtful). I just figured if I am putting it down on LT1s from the light now, maybe I can take a shot at the LS1s too.
P.S. Car is getting a new built 700R4 with a 2200 stall, SFCs, Poly Bushings, and a PCM for less Tune

Here is what we need to know is what kind of power are you looking to make? The reason i amm asking is because the mininram is basically designed around bigger cubed motors and makes highend power and is much softer down low then any other tpi replacement intake. If you have your heart set on dumping $1000+ into the miniram then by all means go head. I would take the 400 and spend it on a cam and have money left over before you buy runners. I realize your car is speed density so you would have to have the prom tuned for the cam. This cars really wake up from a nice mild cam.
Re: Help me decide
Oh sorry man, the Miniram is planned on an entirely new engine. But I am hoping to make 330-350 crank hp on the stock heads and cam...farfetched I know, but if I can do it I will. I plan on a base in the next 4-6 months but right now I just wanted a good set of runners to try and pick up a couple hp.
I think I will do the SLP and work about an inch out of the runner at the plenum.

I don't won't to sound negative or anything but those power numbers are not realisitc without either changing (or porting/valve job) the heads, and a cam.
Let's say you buy runners, port the plenum yourself, make a free flow cold air induction, port match the lower intake yourself, port the inlet of the stock throttle body, full exhaust, msd ignition, synthetic fluids everywhere, optimize the fuel pressure and timing, lower coolant temps, and do any other of the free power tricks and you are still going to be under 300hp
.
I wish you luck if you are going this route but a cam is money well spent that you will be happier with than anything else excpet maye a power adder and heads lol.

Hey shocker, thanks for the advise. I have to admit, not alot of people arround here are as helpful as that. Most would have just flipped. Thanks man. You know I think I will look into a cam

No problem. Picking out modifications can be tricky. I am not saying that the runners are not a good modification but if those are the power goals you want to reach you will need more than just runners lol. Also a side note teh powerband you are talking about is not very attainable with out an aftermarket tpi intake liek the hsr, mr, sr, or first intake. At 5500 your car will not be making peak power without head work as well. A nice mild cam with a modified intake, exhaust and you may pull too 5000-5200 but beyond that the heads will start choking it. You can start simple and go from there.
Nitrous on the other hand can be had for about $500 when you search long enough. I got my efi kit from rpm poutlet for under 500. (summit and jegs price match and charge less for shipping and handling).
