Re: fuel injectors, i need help!!

Do you have a manual?

Here's the gist:

Release the fuel pressure
Remove the plenum and anything that'll prevent you from doing so.
Remove the runners
Remove the rail
Remove the injectors

Assembly is reverse of removal.

Try not to break any of the clips that hold the injectors to the rail. GM will rape you for new ones. Most likely you'll also need new TPI gaskets.
It's not really a difficult job.

Shouldn't take more than 2 hours to complete. You will need simple tools like Torx bits and a 10mm socket. Remember that on a TPI system there are (2) hidden bolts on the bottom below the Plenum.. After you remove all the top and bottom runner bolts there are still the two that you have to find.. The easiest way if you don't know exactly where to find them is remove the intake plenum, don't forget to remove the IAT (Air Intake Temp Sensor clip from the bottom of the plenum. This will help you see where these torq bits are at. Use a 10mm to remove the fuel rails. Easily pry up on the injectors until they come out. Reading a chiltons manual or Haynes Manual ahead would be of great help to you.

Re: fuel injectors, i need help!!

very basic once you deplete the fuel in the fuel lines. ( read the manual on how to) basically you remove the fuel pump fuse near the battery and turn on the engine and let uit use up the remaining fuel. then remove your gas cap to remove pressure.

then remove the negative cable from your battery for saftey sake.

remove the plenum, throttle body, runnners and then the fuel rail. be careful but gently pop the injectors out of the intake manifold.

then once on a table turn the injector rings/tabs and firmly grip the injector one by one and wiggle gently and pop them/ pull them out.

then take your new injectors and oil up the o-rings with normal engine oil for lubrication and keeping them moist and not drying out anytime soon.

pop them back into the fuel rail lock them in with the ring/tab and pop them back into the intake manifold.

they are grouped by pairs so do one pair at a time pushing them into the intake holes and move on to the next pair.

then bolt everything back together

and dont be alarmed if the engine doesnt turn on the first few trys it will take a few trys to get fuel back into the fuel rails and injectors.

this also would be a good tme to clean and polish the plenum and runners and possible do work on your fuel pressure regulator by repalcing the diaphram and/or putting an adjustable one in.

get a chiltons manual and read up on it more with these threads and you'lll do just fine, jsut keep things clean and take your time.

The throttle body does not need to be removed from the plenum. Just pull the whole plenum including the TB as 1 unit. If your TB coolant lines are hooked up just pull the assembly out of your way.

It is what I am in the middle of. Its my first time and haven't run into any issues. Two things to note, you will need a 5/8" flare nut wrench for the fuel fitting. Second, the 9/16" bolt that holds the bracket to the front of the motor is a PITA. I'm going to try and replace it with a socket head so I can get to it from the front instead of using an open end. Another possible alternative is to disconnect the lines at the flex lines...

I think I started to strip the fitting putting it back together, so I have to check that out before i put it back together. Plus I knocked all the bolts onto the ground so I have to remember which ones go where!
