code 42 nightmare
Ok, After a blow head gasket between #3-#5 cyl. I decided to install a set of Brodix 200IK heads and a ZZ4 cam. All went well but the car runs like hell and has poor power. I have been getting a code 42. ( bad ignition module, bad ckt 423,424 bad ecm) I replaced the distributor and ignition module. I also tried afew different ecm that i borrowed from friends. Car still has poor power. Checked continuity on ckts 423 and 424 and they were good. Today a friend dropped of a recent issue Car Craft 1/07. This cas a C4 TPI vette with a code 42 and poor power. Turns out this guy installed his distributor wrong. I installed my cam dot to dot, then just dropped my distributor in. Then i figured i would just get the 6* BTDC by adjusting the timing later. What I should have done from what the artic says is get the harmonic balencer mark at 6* THEN stab the distributor with the rotor and #1 tower perfectly aligned. Its rainning here today so I'll try it tomorrow... what do u guys think could this be my code 42 and poor power problem????

Re: code 42 nightmare
well withot proper tuning its going to have poopower and crappy running with that much done to it, but thats just my opinion.
btw nt sure about your exact code but, you could have put the distributor 180* out. In otherwors backwords kinda if thats how you see it.
easiest way to change itis to get it on cylinder #1s compression stroke and the rotor should be pinting towards #1 terminal on your cap if memry serves me right. although in my opinion i doub this is correct because, sbc's barely run or don't from my experiences when ty are in backwords.
