Quick MiniRam question

I know you need aftermarket heads to see the true potential with the MiniRam intake, but what sort of increase will be seen if the Miniram is put onto an otherwise stock engine? I've read all about what should be done to the engine to match it to the Miniram, I just want to know what I can expect if I slap the Miniram on my otherwise stock 88 L98 GTA.

you will loose a little low end torque but make up for it at the higher RPM's,you will probably see about the same 1/4 times,I did.But if you are planning on future engine work it's not a bad idea,if I did it over again I would probably do headers and stuff first, and do the Mimiram with cam and heads

Whether you put the miniram on your otherwise stock car or not is dependant on it's options. If your car can with the wimpy 2.73 rear gears, then stay away. If you have the 3.27 rear gear, you should see a drop in 60ft times, but a higher 1/4mile MPH speed. The L98 cam is not well suited for a miniram, go with a slightly larger cam, with more duration and lift. Also, a looser convertor will be needed. Expect to loose 30+ft/lbs of torque, and gain 30-50 HP.

86 IROC-Z, Retired for winter, weird oil leak (drains out in about 3 minutes), new 355 other than that, TPI, 700R4, edelbrock headers, removed AC/Air pump, heater plate conversion - no heater (loL). 14.8@90MPH

Next project (think I'm going to scrap the IROC)- mid 80's monte carlo, 383, edelbrock performer RPM intake, cam, holley double pumper carb, sportsman 2 heads, NOS. Hoping mid/high 12's on motor, mid 11's on spray.

The miniram requires some extensive modifications before you can really take advantage of it. You need to make your engine breathe at higher RPMs which means an exhaust system. Otherwise, you will only end up hating the loss of low-end responsiveness. Your Miniram needs induction changes such as an aerofoil, modified MAF, aftermarket (or home made) cold-air induction to free up the restrictions ahead of the miniram. Your cam will be a limiting factor; you'll need a higher valve lift (about .475" on an otherwise stock head) and a longer duration, about 214 degrees @ .050" lift. You'll need to add headers and a good cat-back. You will want to change your torque converter to increase the stall speed to about 2500 RPM, and put in a set of 3.23 or 3.42 gears with positraction. Lastly, you'll want to update the computer programming in the ECM with a different PROM, such as one from Hypertech, TPIS, JET, Chips by Ed, etcetera.

That ought to do it.
