good cam for a 355 TPI?

what cam would you sugest for a 355 TPI? gotta be able to drive on the street pretty good, but i want it to run on the track GOOD. so more towards performance, but must be streetable without having to pit stop at every gas station along the way.
i was thinking somewhere around 214/224 duration @.050 .443/.465 lift with 112 lobe sep

Thats hardly any lift for a TPI car, you'll probably want a good .480"+. The LT4 HOT Cam is popular, its only $160 from www.gmpartsdirect.com, thats the one the I bought

------------------
1987 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z
L98 TPI 350 (5.7L)
TH 700R-4 Transmission with 2.77:1 Rear End

Current Mods: Edelbrock TES 1 5/8" Headers, Hooker 3" Aerochamber Cat-Back System, Performance Resource Chip with 160* Thermostat, Accel Ignition Coil, Cap, Rotor, 8.8mm Wires, K&N Filters, JET TPI Air Foil, All Free Mods, Falken ZIEX Z-Rated Tires.

Best ET : 14.32 @ 97.7mph
(corrected for elevation)

Next on the list: LT4 HOT Cam

The specs on that LT4 Cam are 218/228 @ 50 and 492 lift on both sides.

General,

Your cam specs sound like a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 262 flat-tappet grind with a simply a wider LSA. If so, then I have a similar cam in my 305, and like it.

I imagine that your specs are about as far as I'd go with a tuned port configuration, otherwise you'll end up with a cam that makes great power (5500 to 6000) at the point where the TPI gives up.

I had a 2-stroke motorcycle like that once. a 1980 Yamaha RD350LC. It came with some great midrange pipes, and the cylinder had the port raised way up. The pipes came on at 4000, the port came on at 6000, the pipes gave up at 8000, and the port wanted to go to 12,000. As a result, the engine stuttered to 4000 RPM, came alive at 6000,threw the front wheel skyward, then fell flat on its face at 8500 RPM. Very, very peaky and hard to ride.

Um, never mind that last part. Probably not relevant to this thread, but it does illustrate the problems that can happen with mismatched induction, valvetrain, and exhaust.

Roger that, Dan. That seems to be a popular cam, when paired to an aftermarket TPI with ported plenum, aftermarket runners, and aftermarket base. Hey, where is your torque converter and steeper gears? Shouldn't you add some 3.42's or 3.73's and a 2500 RPM stall converter before putting in that HOT cam??
