Car wont start

Hey guys, ive got an '85 z28, 305. And the other night i was driving it around trying to charge the battery and it just died. Right before it died it wasnt revving very well, and i also heard a couple of pops coming from up front. I just bought a new battery, and it turns over fine now, but it wont click over. I was thinking about replacing the cap and coil, maybe even the ignition. But the thing is Im a little low on money and Id like to try to save as much money as posible. Can ANYONE help?

When you say it won't click over do you mean the engine just turns over(starter spins and engine turns over) and never tries to fire up? You need to check your voltage at the battery and starter. Also check to see if the plugs are sparking..

If you have a PEP BOYS around you I would take the alternator off and take it to them to test. They have a machine to test it and it is free!
I tell you this cause I think it is the alternator that is bad. Since you have a new battery it is still strong but it isn't getting a charge so it will soon die.

Good Luck!

HEI modual or pickup coil. The HEI mod is easy to get, but you have to pull the Distributor to get the pickup coil.
