Stock TPI cam specs 87-89? Comparing for emissions...
Hi guys! I'm looking for a cam for my MPFI '86 2.8L V6, unfortunately, none are CARB-certified. I have a feeling that the companies making the computer-compatible camshafts didn't bother spending the cash to try for certification- why bother with a V6?
Anyway, to the TPI part: I asked on the tech board if there was a way to tell if a cam will be emissions legal. Stingerssx suggested I check out how the "computer-compatible emissions legal" and "stock" TPI cams varied. He thinks I can get an idea of how much the specs can change... know what I mean?
I searched this board for stock cam specs, but everybody has a cam in their sig, and it brought up a bunch of messages. I also couldn't find it in the FAQ. So, does anyone know the stock cam specs?
My car uses a MAF, so I guess I'd need the 87-89 v8's, 305 and 350, TPI. Also if any of you guys have done emissons-legal cam swaps I'd like to hear of it!
I go thru emissions in NJ which adopted the new "dyno" emissions tests. Thanks!

Thanks for the specs, Beefy89! I'll have to study this stuff to make some sense of it
Is that middle cam, for an '87 305 auto, with 179/194 duration @0.050 and 0.350/0.384 the "peanut" cam I've heard about? The lift seems pretty small... heck, it's less than my v6 2.8's stock cam! (My stock = 196/202 duration @ 0.050, 108 lobe sep, and 0.393/0.410 valve lift)
Kevin, I saw that page, but they never said "TPI" for the cams at the end. I take it that the last cam on that page is for a speed-density 305/350?
If you guys are bored, feel free to check out my cam specs that I found for my motor- they're on the tech board, here's the message: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/004443.html
Thanks!!

Yes, that is the specs for the peanut cam, and the 90-92 cam is the speed density TPI cam.
