Should I convert my TBI to MPFI or TPI?
Should I convert my TBI to MPFI or TPI?
I realize that TPI is an MPFI system but I'm wanting to whether I should go with a conversion(like edelbrocks)or aftermarket TPI. Which would be cheaper? Make more power? thanx!
------------------
Pretty damn smart with cars for 17!
91 Camaro RS, 305 TBI
No mods yet...Hopefully:
Convert to dual-cat with headers and Borla catback exhaust.
Edelbrock MPFI system.
RAM air hood & Z28 wing.
Z28 cam.
ABS system.
Positraction rearend with rear disc brakes.
Rebuilt front and rearend suspension with polygraphite bushings.
Strutbrace.
Rollbar.

TPI is less expensive if you buy the parts used and makes more lowend torque. The edelbrock makes more midrange to topend power, max is like 450HP on the injecters in the Pro Flow Rpm kit. TPI maxes out a at around 350HP with Ported Stock Manifold, now with a superram or miniram you can get more HP at a higher cost. But edelbrock kit icludes everything but Fuel Lines for the conversion and all parts are new, reliable.
If you plan on adding some sort of forced induction... yes, swap to multi point.
If you plan on making more than 400-420 hp run multi point (short runner) or a 4bbl TBI unit on a good flowing single plane.
If you plan on making 400-420 hp or less, run a 2bbl TBI (a-la 454 truck) on a single plane.
If you want the absolute most low end torque you can get, use a long runner TPI setup.
If you want to keep it low buck, use TBI.
In the end, tuning is critical. Make sure you can find someone who can tune your combo properly or learn to do it yourself. If this does not happen, you will become one of those "EFI sucks" people.
