Swaped 305 for 350 plus a cam
Ok, i had a 91 305 with a MAP TPI setup. It had a mild roller cam, .040 over, nothin realy big. I swapped it for a ~94 4bolt main 350. The motor run pretty decent overall but im sure some of my tuning is amiss.
So far, i have had a lot of luck by advancing the timing, but at the moment, its advanced quite a good bit, making it hard to start and idle to high.
So, what im wondering is what is the proper way to handle this, and how can i handle it for now? It start easily enough, so i can deal with that problem if i have to, but the idle is way out of control. it there any problem with merely setting the idle based on my new timing?

The proper way is to do your own custom chips to adjust the idle and the timing. But you should have the initial timing no more than 10 degrees, up from the stock 6 degrees. You can try to do the IAC/TPS reset procedure in the tech articles and see if it helps. But remember that is only setting the idle to what the computer wants it to be, not what the engine needs it to be.
