Air Plenum

I own a 87 Gta 305 5spd and i was wondering what would happen if i removed the air plenum right before the throttle boby and replaced it with just a large tube from the maf to the tb.Does the air plenum serve any purpose.I just got the car it's my first one and i've allways wanted a GTA im 19 and i plan on keeping this car forever. Thanks

I replaced mine with an elbow and 3" tube, made out of ABS plastic, plus a clamp. I tried some other stuff originally, it was white and used for drainage or something, but it didnt like the heat under the hood too much. Any home improvement center should have the stuff you need. Theres no reason for that stupid plastic box thats on there stock.
