corvette heads and intake for a 305 TPI
A freind of mine has parts from a late 80s vette.
He's giving me the intake set-up for free and the aluminum heads for like 50 bucks or so.Can I just bolt on the heads on o a TPI 305? And didn't the vettes have a different TPI set-up? Like a mini-ram or something? The thing is he's gotta dig it up from his personal junk-yard.He doesn't remember what it looks like.
Can I bolt on these parts on to a 305 w/out a problem? I imag8ine I whould get a nice performance gain?
Any help is appreciated.

Yea, it will bolt up to a 305. The intake isnt really any different on the vette. What you will run into is the EGR setup from the vette, which ports exhaust from the RH exhaust manifold into the back of the intake near the distributor since the heads do not have heat riser passages in them, and the center 4 bolts on the vette heads are the early style rather than the 87-up style. Since you are getting the intake, just swap the vette base onto your car as well. If you have to use EGR for emissions tests where you live, then hook up the port on the back of the manifold to the exhaust manifold. Otherwise I would probably just block that off. You will need a special head gasket for aluminum heads, and I think you have to use the 350 head gasket. Willie knows about that one.
Find out what year it is too, may have to consider if theres a cold start valve on the vette setup and may need to block that off too, Ive never dealt with it so Im not sure how that works out with later runners.

Its more than just running the EGR from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold, because the f-body exhaust manifolds dont have anything to connect the EGR tube to! You'll have to fab up something like I am doing. But I'm modifying my SLP 1 3/4" headers, not stock exhaust manifolds. If I was you, I would put those parts away and save them for when you get a 350 engine.

350 heads have larger combustion chambers, if u put them on a 305 your compression ratio is going to significantly drop,

You will have to use 350 head gaskets. Madmax is right about the combustion chamber volume. These are the only 350 heads (I believe) that happen to have the same combustion chamber volume as stock 305 heads, 58cc.
And why are you guys going to the trouble of fabricating an EGR passageway? Just bolt everything back up as though the heads have the passageways. I did this two years ago. I have yet to set any related codes AND I pass emissions every year with flying colors (visual and tailpipe).

Thanks for the help, fellas. So in conclusion the corvette heads do not have better air flow characteristics but there is a performance gain due to a weight savings, right?
