What blocks will tpi fit on?

I wanted to build an engine, but I still want to keep the tpi. I wanted to buy the biggest engine block i can and put the tpi on it with the Accel speed desity computer and with cal pack. otherwise i might just go with carb.

It will fit on any small block. Whether or not it will be a restriction on a large displacement engine is a different matter.

Porting helps, siamesing helps more. Siamese it in about 4in, and do a full massive port job. Stick it on top of a 5.7 rod 383 and rev it to around 5500rpm with a mild cam. You'll have a decently fast combo that still looks stock.

Re: What blocks will tpi fit on?

Please allow me to throw in my $0.02. I've been visiting the site for some time and need to contribute.

The largest production Gen 1 Small Block Chevrolet's were the 400 small blocks, which were offered from 1970 to 1980. 1970, 1971, and 1972 blocks all came with 4-bolt mains.

I'm partial to 400 small blocks as I have run them for some time now. One set-up with an Accel base, gutted SLP runners, 222/230 hydraulic roller, Trickflows, etc., put down 450 rwtq at only 2600 rpm. It probably would've put down more, but that was the lowest engine speed that could be picked up on the dyno due to the converter flash.

The flip side of this coin was the 280 rwhp it put down at 4400 rpm. Above 4400 rpm it was just making noise. This combination only worsened my traction problems, but was fun for incinerating the slicks. The T-ram seems like it will help matters though.

If one decides to run a 400SB, don't forget to drill the steam holes in the heads! They don't have a very long life expectancy on the street if you don't.

As I mentioned at the start, my $0.02.

Re: What blocks will tpi fit on?

yeah that wasnt anywhere near enough cam for that motor... it would have been good in a 350, on the small side in a 383 and deffiently too small for a hopped up 400ci
