E.G.R./A.I.R. Computer Concerns

I am planning on running vortec heads with the new manifold doomed to never arrive on my '87 350TPI Iroc . I'd like to think I can lose both my egr and air systems when doing this. Have any of you guys got away with doing this? I want to spend my money on things other than a $300 custom chip. Any thoughts will be apreciated.

For $200 you can get the gear to do your own chips. Then even tune it right.
Might read thru the prom board section for a while

The AIR system you can remove without worry for prom calibration as it only distributes air to the manifolds under open loop operation, and also to the cats. The EGR system may be a different story, so make sure your cooling system is good if you remove it (it lowers combustion chamber temps).

My feeling is that you will need to adjust your spark advance in the 65-80 kPa MAP region and 1500-2500 rpm range. With no EGR you will probably be over advanced and will get detonation. I know I did!!! I had to take out about 10 degrees in the this region to stop my pinging.
