Thanks to everybodys help here, I tracked down my issue to a bad intake gasket on the plenum. I ripped everything apart, and I was really careful putting everything back together. I also blocked off my EGR valve while I had everything apart.

Now that I "fixed" it, I have a VERY loud hiss coming from the air intake. And there appears to be a TON of air suction. I have a k&n filter cone on the intake. It almost sounds like my diesel truck when the turbo's hissing. Its super loud.

Are these things supposed to do this, or did I mess something up

I also replaced the IAC when I had it apart. It was filthy and wouldn't move. When I put the new one in, I pushed the little rod thingy in, just like the instructions said.

I don't have a VSS, so I'm not sure if it will set itself or not. Could this be my hissing noise?

 

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. You can use smoke, carb. cleaner or starting fluid and I know there are more and be very careful doing this. Spray some of the above around the intake and when the idle picks up, there is your leak.

 

That's the sound of a clean IAC and a manifold with no leaks! most likely.

Mine sounds like a vacuum cleaner when running- is it a strong sucking noise or is it a high pitched hissing noise?

 

My car hisses really loud too with the K&N filter.
