Effects of plugging EGR

Just wondering what the effects might be. My car has/had a nasty hesitation when idiling and light throttle, i pulled the vaccum hose from underneath the throttle body more toward the driver side and stuck a large bolt in it. Took the car for a drive and it made it way better still a lil rough idiling but no percieved hesitation anymore. Anyways if i leave it like that what effect will it have on the performance/economy of the car?

Re: Effects of plugging EGR

WinnipegGTA,

That is the vacuum port that is for the egr as well as the charcoal canister. A properly functioning egr will not only give you better gas mileage but is also an integral part of your emissions system. Without it you won't pass the sniffer test.

Check to make sure your hoses aren't plugged up. If the hoses aren't plugged then pull the egr and make sure it is functioning. If its functioning properly, once you have applied some vacuum it should pull the diaphragm upwards then once you stop the vacuum it should come down again.

Hope this helps,

Rabi C.
