4bbl to TPI swap, need info/help.
Hey guys, I have an 87 Trans Am with the LG4 305 and Quadrajunk carb. The carb is junk, everything in/on it needs replaced (TPS, MCS, float, etc ...)so I said "To hell with it" and am swapping to TPI.
Now a few questions. My TPI stuff is coming from an 86 IROC. Am I going to have to get pulleys off of a TPI car, or will mine be ok? and what about the fuel pump? The tank is going to be a PITA to get out, so is it necessary to put a pump in the tank, or can I mount on on the frame somewheres? Whats my best option for driveability and performance? And while I'm in there swapping, anything I can do to get a little more power?? As for a wiring harness, anyone have any idea who to go with? Painless? TPiS? S&P? I think thats about it for now, but if anyone has any more pointers, I'm open to hear em! Thanks guys.

I did the exact same swap, but I used a '85/'91 hybrid for the swap. (Hybrid as in: '85 TPI, '91 computer, harness) I used Painless wiring and don't reccomend for what you intend to do.
Personally, I would mount the fuel pump in the tank. You will have to locate a TPI/TBI sending unit, the pump won't work on a carb sending unit. This is the route I went, and if I had to do it again, I would still do it this way. I also bought used fuel lines.
As for things to do while its apart, I did many of the things in my sig while it was apart (byapss TB, ported plenum, AFPR, etc...) My "LG4" has a best time of 14.99 @94 since my conversion and other goodies.
