Aren't you are supposed to have either a combo of self-aligning rocker arms and standard pushrods, or standard rocker arms with hardened pushrods and guide plates? If these are indeed the two main options you have in this area, which is standard stock equipment on my '87 Iroc 350 tpi engine?

 

an 87 chevy motor is what's called a roller motor. in 1987 chevy went from a flat tappet style lifter to a roller style lifter.the 1987 roller style lifters are shorter than the 1986 and older flat tappet lifters.in 87 chevy went with a self alineing roller rocker.so if you use self alineing roller rockers you don't need to use guide plates or harden pushrods.you can use a non-self alineing roller rocker on a 87+ motor but then you would need to have guide plates and harden pushrods

(TO CORRECT WHAT I HAD JUST SAID)THE 1987 PUSHRODS ARE SHORTER THAN THE 1986 AND OLDER PUSHRODS.THE 1987 ROLLER LIFTERS ARE LONGER THAN THE OLDER FLAT TAPPET STYLE LIFTERS.
