I heard one computer is optimized more for performance than the other for 88 350s. Can anyone verify this ? How can I tell the difference? ECU identification numbers?

As far as I know the 86-89 ECM are all the same. There is probably minor changes to the PROMs each year but they use the same ECM. Ive never heard of a "performance" ECM though.
You might try posting this in the PROM forum. Those guys will know for sure but Im fairly certain that there is no different one.

The ECM that comes with the 86-89 F-bodies (TPI) and Vettes is part #1227165, and that's the only ECM used. That same ECM was used in MANY GM vehicles, as I posted before, for my ECM swap I pulled my 165 ECM from an Astro Van. Like Guido said, it's the PROMs that are different through the years/models.
