p/n switch function

I am looking at using a 90-92 TPI 305 or 350 in a project of mine. All of the ones I can find are automatics. I need to know exactly what the function of the Park/neutral switch is. I plan on using a manual transmission. Do I need to get the prom from a manual equipped car? what about if I use a 350, from what I understand all the 350s had an autotranny. Will I need an aftermarket prom or can I just run the stock auto prom without the P/N switch connected. Does this switch effect EVAP purging / idle speed and other things or what? I don't have the manuals yet so I'm in the dark onthis one so far.

Try to get a prom for a manual tranny. The park/neutral switch tells the ECM that you in fact in gear, and it will raise the idle. It also compensates when you come to a stop so the engine does not stall. If you just leave the switch in park and then drive, then engine will want to stall when you come to a stop.

A prom from a 305 standard will run with a 350 setup. Of course it will not be optimized, but it will run. Playing with the fuel pressure may provide some compensation.

Look at it this way, you can get your project up and running with a stock 305 prom and then look for a custom afterwards.

Mark.

Anyone have suggestion/recommendations for a place to get a chip for a 350 TPI w/manual tranny or one without the park/neutral switch in other words? Some place you've had past dealing with maybe.
